Ah well, back to the drawing board but somehow don't think I'll be forking
out GBP 200 just yet - 'specially with our current AU conversion rate.
Living in hope that all info on fiches gets put onto CDs - soon!

Think I might have missed the start of this one but, if it helps, I have
managed to scan in quite a lot of fiche. They are readable if a little blurred!!
Use the highest resolution possible on the negative scan option of your
scanner - and a good graphics package (Photoshop, Paintshop Pro) to read them.

Hi List
Wanted to let you know that our transcriptions of the Llandderfel 1851, 1871 & 1891 census are now available on the Genuki site. A big thank you to Gareth Hicks for helping us get them on the site.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MER/Llandderfel/index.html
The transcriptions have not been double checked by anyone so please let us know if you see any errors.

Dear Lizzie,
This question surfaces at very regular intervals on the lists.
The answer is 'Yes' & 'No'. To expand:-
'No' - the degree of magnification required for pages_on_fiche versus
the resolution attainable on home PC scanners (at present) means you
cannot read what you scan.
'Yes' - there is a dedicated PC accessory called (?)"ProScan" which is
said to do the job. It's a UK product, cost about GBP 200,
made/distributed by a Dr. ----?. I thought I had kept emails detailing
this, but apparently not. Searches of Rootsweb mailing lists should
dredge up references to it. What I *never* read was a review by anyone
who had bought the machine. Web-based info. on the product is very hard
to find, too.
Hope this helps,
Trevor

Sorry Richard, I think that this reply proves that the Hugh Lloyd and Mary
who married in Llanrhaeadr are not yours. As your Hugh and Mary were
breeding in Dolgellau at a time when this Hugh and Mary were still farming
in Llanrhaeadr.
Sometimes a negative result is better than no result.
There are other marriage indecies availiable which might show your Hugh and
Mary in them - some free - some "pay for" I will have a look at their scope
after I have recovered from a too long spell of "night shifts" in a day or
two and get back to you

Thanks Alwyn.
We met up with Tamsin while in the UK in 2004 and as you can imagine had a
good chat about the LLOYD family which from our visit and research now looks
something like this:-
Hugh LLOYD (the elder) b 1758 m Mary ...? b 1748 married abt 1780 (this
marriage being the subject of our recent enquiry) they had 4 known children
Hugh Lloyd (the younger) b 1787, William Lloyd b abt 1789, Gwen Lloyd b abt
1793 and Rowland Lloyd b abt 1794. Note Gwen Lloyd's grave stone states
youngest daughter so there could have been other daughters.
Hugh Lloyd (the younger) b 1787 married Catherine OWEN in 1808 Dolgellau and
they had 6 known children Hugh Owen Lloyd b 1813, William Lloyd b abt 1814,
Evan Lloyd b abt 1816, John Lloyd b 1819, Rowland Lloyd b 1821 and Mary
Lloyd b 1823 .
The Hugh Owen Lloyd mentioned above b 1813 m Charlotte Ann HOBBS b abt 1812
They were married 1839 in St Mary, Dolgellau and Mary Lloyd b 1823 m Robert
PUGH b 1824 (Master Mariner).married? date. place and children unknown.
Going through the Archive marriage Bonds the following was noted:-
Mary Evans Spinster of Llanrhaeadr, Den 1785 November 8th at Llanrhaeadr
Hugh Lloyd. and speculate if this is the elusive marrige of Hugh and Mary?
any comments appreciated.

I wonder if you could help me, Alwyn?
My Gr. Grandfather, William Ellis, was born about 1815. His parents were Edward Ellis (mariner) & Gwen Griffith. I presume they were married some time before that in Merioneth, likely in Llanenddwyn. Any sign in those records of their wedding and hopefully who their parents were?

I have looked through the whole of the Marriage index for Merioneth and
there is no Hugh Lloyd & Mary marriage anywhere in the county, so the
marriage in Llanrhaeadr may be yours.
There are two Llanrhaeadrs in Denbighshire, Llanrhaeadr yng Nghinmeirch and
Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant which is partially in Denbighshire and partially in
Montgomeryshire. If you e-mail the NLW with the reference details they will
probably be able to tell you which one Hugh & Mary got married in.
Clwyd FHS has transcribed most, if not all, of the parish records for
Denbighshire (including both Llanrhaeadrs), so a request on the Clwyd
Rootsweb list asking for a look-up for the marriage and for any children
early in the union (an elder daughter, perhaps)might prove valuable
especially if there is a reference in them to a currier.
All the best

Hello Lizzie,
Your Barmouth Williamses are proving to be quite a toothache.
The only Owen Williams that I can find of about the right age is an Owen
William, Master Mariner aged 71 living in Glan y mynydd with wife Elizabeth
and daughters Mary and Elizabeth - but from what you have said about your
family before I doubt if he is the Owen that you want.
One of the problems with these lists is that we have the information in bits
and pieces over a period of time and it is difficult, sometimes to see the
whole.
Can you send me a full "report" about where you are at with your Barmouth
people - I'm sure that the answer is out there somewhere!
All the best

This was posted on my message board (which I had to withdraw because it was
being abused by spammers) a while back.
I don’t know if the e-mail address is still valid, but it sounds like this
lady might be after the same family as you, as Hugh Owen Lloyd is mentioned
on the MI’s you asked to be translated a few weeks back. I suspect that Hugh
Owen Lloyd is more likely to be Hugh Lloyd’s grandson by an un discovered
son called Owen, rather than a sibling of William, John, Mary and Rowland as
Tamsin has him.

Would anyone happen to have the 1861 census for Llanycil?
The help I received with the 1871 was brilliant but now need to find out if there were any more children before David who was born in 1855 when his mother was aged 36. This seems rather old to start having children. Could anyone help please?
