Hi Lists
Just wanted let you all to know that, thanks to all the great effort of Gareth Hicks, our census transcriptions of various parishes in Merionethshire are now available on the Genuki Website. The ones for Corwen were particularly difficult because they were so large.
There was a problem when transferring the files from our spreadsheets to Gareth and then on to the website. Where a dwelling contained an accent in the spelling that letter was converted to something else. John and I are in the process of identifying those dwellings so we can get them corrected. So if you spot any of those errors, or any others for that matter, please let us know.
Here is the list of the census transcriptions that are now available
Betws Gwerfil Goch - 1851, 1871, 1891
Corwen - 1851, 1871, 1891
Gwyddelwern - 1851, 1871, 1891
Llanfor - 1851, 1871
Llangar - 1851, 1871, 1891
Llansantffraid G.D. - 1851, 1871, 1891
For your additional information the 1851 Census for Llandanwg, Llanfair, and Trawsfynydd (supplied by Joyce & Douglas Hinde) are also posted on that site
Go to www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MER/parishes.html then click on to the parish name.

I know you can hire fiche from the LDS and it may also be possible to purchase from them as well and I'm sure someone will point out the benefits of subscribing to Ancestry. I'm also fairly sure quite a few don't realise film or microfiche of the England & Wales census can be purchased direct from the PRO [National Archive].
Unlike other PRO records there is no pre-charge to obtain an estimate of the cost of the films/fiche you require. As a guide the 1901 are £2.60p per fiche. Normally you will have to identify the piece number from PROCAT, although if you require a whole county you may not need to.
The records are listed in PROCAT by year, county, district, sub-district and parish.
The 1841 & 1851 census are held in document series HO 107. The 1851 for Carnarvonshire being in HO 107/ 2513 to 2519 and Merionethshire in HO 107/2509 to 2512.
Later census are in series RG. The census for 1861, 71, 81, 91 & 1901 are in documents series RG 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 respectively.
The 1861 for Carnarvonshire is in RG9/4328 to 4360
You can see the range by searching PROCAT at http://catalogue.pro.gov.uk/ , enter census returns, dates 1841 - 1901 leave dept blank or search HO or RG. Once you have the list by year, click on browse, then the down arrows and/or + symbol and to see what is listed.
To obtain an estimate go to the PRO web site at http://www.pro.gov.uk/ and clicking "quick order", then "order form" [orange text, para 4], you can request estimates for up to 5 items in one application.
If as it appears, you require whole counties or at least districts, I would just submit a request using the HO or RG numbers and state your full requirements in the text box. Or just email them for advice [scroll down page to "contact us" after clicking on "quick order"].

My apologies, that was my finger that replied with an empty message before
my brain was ready ...
However, I have found the place on the map, if this is of any help.
As you may have worked out Llanfihangel y Traethau (note 'u' not 'n' at the
end) is a parish which includes the small town of Penrhyndeudraeth.
Merionethshire.
Llandecwyn is a locality (hardly even a hamlet on a modern map) in the hills
about three kilometres south-east of Penrhyndeudraeth, near Bryn Bwbach.
There is a Llandecwyn halt on the railway close to the edge of the estuary
closer to Penrhyndeudraeth but Llandecwyn 'proper' is east of that. You may
see a small lake Llyn Tecwyn Uchaf (Tecwyn's lake, upper), a reservoir. That
is just north of Llandecwyn. Hendre cerrig is a farmhouse (can't tell if it
is still occupied) a further kilometre or two into the hills to the
southeast again. It seems a very rocky area from the map, as the name
suggests. Although I have had relatives in Penrhyndeudraeth (until very
recently) I have never been up into the locality of Llandecwyn.
You can find Hendre Cerrig on Old-maps.co.uk at Grid Ref: 265294,336312
You cannot see it on Multimap but if you go to
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=264000.414228838&Y=336500.230708224
&width=700&height=400&client=public&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&
addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&out.x=7&out.y=8&scale=10000
then it is near Nant pasgan.
Hope this helps
David
