This is a Hoax. The file with the Teddy Bear is a file which is on every
windows computer, it helps run programmes which use Java. If you delete it your
computer may not work properly.
Do NOT pass this message on to anybody in your address book, doing so only
extends the hoax.
Do NOT delete the file.
If you have a message saying that a virus is not detected by the major
antivirus systems, you can guarantee that it is a hoax. If a virus that is not
detectable by these systems is ever created (which is highly unlikely) THEY will
let you know; there will NEVER be any need for you to let people in your address
book know.
Please do not send messages about Computer Viruses to any Rootsweb List. Viri
cannot be passed through Rootsweb list mail, but hoaxes, such as this one,
which persuade you to ruin your own computer can!
If you have a concern about a possible virus threat send details to the list
administrator. All Rootsweb list administrators can be contacted using the
template address LISTNAME-admin(a)Rootsweb.com (Change LISTNAME for the list's name
eg WLS-MERIONETHSHIRE-admin(a)Rootsweb.com WLS-GWYNEDD-admin(a)rootsweb.com
etc). All Rootsweb list administrators will keep their lists updated about any
genuine list-related virus threats.

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately, a virus has been passed on to me by a contact. My address
book WAS infected. Since you are in my address book, there is a good chance
you will find it in your computer too. The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is
not detected by Norton or McAfee antivirus systems. The virus sits quietly
for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by
messenger and by the address book, whether or not you sent any e-mails to
your contacts.
Here's how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it:
YOU MUST DO THIS.
1. Go to Start, Find or Search option.
2. In the file folder option, type the name jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure you search your C: drive and all subfolders and any other drives
you may have.
4. Click "find now"
5. The Virus has a Teddy Bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT!
6. Go to Edit (on the menu bar) and choose "select all" to highlight the
file without opening it.
7. Now go to File (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then go to
the Recycle Bin.
8. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS
BOOK, SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS.
To Do This:
a) Open a new e-mail message
b) Click the icon of the address book next to the "TO"
c) Highlight every name and add to "BCC" (which means blind copy)
d) Copy this message and paste to e-mail

Hello again Kathy,
Sorry for taking so long to reply to your last letter, I haven't been using
my own computer to read list mail for the last few days as I have been away
from home, so I couldn't download your image of Fron Arran.
I shall be taking my children to visit their grandmother in Dolgellau over
the weekend and (weather permitting) I will see if I can obtain a comparative
modern picture of Fron Arran for you.
Here are the details of your family from the 1851 census
Lion Street Dolgelley
Howell Parry Head married aged 38 Boot & Shoe Maker Born Dolgelley Merioneth
Margaret Parry Wife Married female aged 35 born Tremadoc Caernarvonshire
Thomas Parry son aged 6 Born Dolgelley Merioneth
Margaret Parry daughter aged 5 Born Dolgelley Merioneth
Mary Parry daughter aged 1 Born Dolgelley Merioneth
if I remember rightly Margaret Parry the wife, has herself as born in
Dolgellau in the 1881 and 1891, but here she appears to have come from Tremadoc, It
will be interesting to see what the 1861 and 1871 census returns say to see if
this is a one-off enumerator's mistake or if there are any other references to
Tremadoc.
all th best

As my family are Humphreys and seem to have spread out in all directions from
their place of origin in Trawsfynydd just down the road from
Penrhyndeudraeth, I would be interested in any information you have about the ancestry of this
Humphreys family.

dear list,
could any one tell me if there is a published list available , for the
Corwen workhouse,
as I am trying to find my grandmother ELIZABETH JANE HUMPHREYS. I think she
was in the workhouse as an 8 year
old , in the 1901 census, (could also be known as Lizzie).
I have her marriage in 1913. to my g/father David Richard Jones of
Wrexham.
and her death in 1958.
any info gratefully received

Yes absolutely - most of the quarries in the area had rows of houses "on
site" as it were where workers and their families lived. Some of the
cottages are now museum pieces!
Good luck

Would love to receive it please!

We recently visited Penryndeudraeth and I found a head stone in Trinity Anglican church that I am sure is one of my relatives. Does anyone else know of this couple? Someone will have to translate for us.

I am seeking information about the family of my paternal Gt.Grandfather, David Roberts from CORWEN. A farmer. His son, Robert was born in 1872 ish. By the time Robert married in 1903, David had died. Robert was a slate quarrier and left Wales having been 'blacklisted' as a result of the Penrhyn Lock-out .Robert married Jane Ellen PRITCHARD from BETHESDA. I have found a likely family on the 1881 census. But as I don't know the name of David's wife or other children, I don't want to jump onto the wrong family tree!Robert settled in Cumberland.UK.
Dear Alwyn,
Very many thanks for the information on Pandy'r Gader and Murpoeth, I am most
grateful to you for your help. I am meeting a cousin who I have recently
found who is also interested in the family tree - she is coming to lunch today-
and I am sure that she too will be really interested to know where these
places were.

Alwyn,
Thanks so much for recommending the web sites for the Bala area. They
brought back some wonderful memories of that area and will be looked at often in the
future.

Anyone have a Tom Roberts, living in Dolgellau in 1914? I have
been given a picture of my aunt, Gwladus Parry with a Tom Roberts,
taken in Dolgellau in 1914.

How nice to see pictures of Wales — I enjoyed them so much. Are there web

Is one site which includes pictures of Bala
To search for similar sites in other parts of Wales there are three
particularly good pages:
An absolutely superb site for pictures of all the main towns in Wales and
some subject specific pictures is:
http://www.worldwidewales.tv/
Which offers a slide show of modern and historic pictures and some background
information. Mainly geared towards the tourist - so no pictures of the
backstreet slums which tend to have more interest to the family and social
historian, it is nevertheless a brilliant starting place for those who have not yet
visited their "ancestral home-towns".
http://www.northwalesindex.co.uk/
Is a general index of websites covering North Wales (there are also
midwalesindex and southwalesindex, from the same company) Mainly aimed at providing
links to business sites, the index also provides a free mention service for
voluntary and home pages relevant to the areas.
http://www.walesontheweb.org/
Is a site run by the National Library of Wales as "a subject gateway to high
quality websites about all aspects of Wales". The main advantage of this site
is that it doesn't contain any commercial sites, so if you use it to look for
Folk Music in Merionethshire, or Brain Surgery in Caernarfonshire that is what
you get and not 50 Bed and Breakfast sites.

If you go to:
http://multimap.co.uk/
And use the postcode LL40 1TD in the quick search box you will find the
location of Pandy Gader, which is still standing. It is a very lonely property off
the A487, the road that goes from the Cross Foxes to Tal-y-llyn.
Murpoeth is not noted as a current address in the Wales Postal Address Book,
but looking at the surrounding properties on the 1881 and 1891 census returns
it appears to have been on the road between Dolgellau and Penmaenpool.
Neighbouring properties Bryn Adda and Ysgubor are at post code LL40 1YA, so I would
guess that the site of Murpoeth may also be there.
All the best

Dear Alwyn,
I note your reply about a property in Dolgellau and wonder if you also have
any knowledge of a place called Pandy'r Gader which I believe to have been in
Dolgellau in 1866. This place is given as the birth place of my great Aunt
Elizabeth Jones known as Lisa in the family, I believe. I have not been able to
find it on a modern map. The previous child in the family was my grandfather
Richard Jones born at Murpoeth Dolgellau in 1862 and I have not been able to
identify that place either, but was advised that it no longer exists. The
family later moved to Towyn and I have been able to find them there in 1881 but
they seem to have got lost in 1871.
I would be very grateful for any help in finding either of the above places
if they still exist today or knowing what happened to them.

Fron Arran is still standing in South Street Dolgellau, if you go to
http://www.multimap.com/
(select UK maps if it doesn't appear by default) and enter the postcode LL40
1NW in the quicksearch box and you will find a map of the area (you can also
see an aerial photograph of the town)
Parts of Pandy 'rodyn are still standing if you go to my website and look at
this picture:
http://dolgellau.me.uk/D/CP/LL1.htm
the four cottages on your left whilst viewing the picture, and the row in the
central background are still standing, the ones on the right have been
demolished.
I was looking at the 1851 census for Dolgellau yesterday and I noticed your
Thomas Parry's entry as a six year old child. Do you have this? if not I made a
note of it and will be happy to send it to you.
