Hello all,
Sorry to cross post this but I'm a bit unsure about where exactly the
boundaries lie and where to properly target any questions. Hoping that the
scattergun approach works.
Any information will be gratefully received.
1. My great-grandfather Henry Humphreys was born on a farm at Mynydd
Llandegai near Bethesda in about 1880. Could anyone tell me which register
office this would have been covered by? From Genuki site I'm not sure if it
should be Caernarvon or Bangor or even somewhere else.
2. Another set of great grandparents were married in a Methodist chapel in
Blaenau in 1889. Can anyone tell me where any records for this chapel would
be kept?
Thanks in advance,
Rod

There were a lot of Methodist chapels in Blaenau Ffestiniog ! If you know the
name of the Chapel, you could visit the All Wales Lookup Exchange page on
http://home.clara.net/tirbach/AW.html#BooksGeneral
And request a lookup from the book
Nonconformist Registers of Wales by Dafydd Ifans 1994.
A book tells you where the surviving registers and other documents of
individual chapels are held .

Dear Tony and Trevor:
Tony, food for thought and research in that list you provided. Thank you for
your list of sundry Davies in Llandrillo. If I can confirm the connection
between my GGGrandfather Robert Davies and his parents (I'm assuming that
they are Thomas and Margaret Davies) and using Tan y Fedw as another
reference, then I think that we have a thread.

Hello.
I am currently researching Burrell's in Cwmystwyth Cards.I have quite abit
of info on them but am stumped as to where they came from ,although I have
been told they could have come from Cornwall to work in the mines there. In
order for me to proceed from where I am now, I really need to have some more
info as I think I have come to the first possible Burrell there (an Elizabeth
born around the 1730's husband not known ). This was in her burial record not
her birth . I found an entry in the 1881 census for Wales and it lists a
David Burrell and Margaret both in their 20's as living in Blaenau
Ffestiniog.David is down as having been born in Cwmystwyth .Are there any
Burrell researchers possibly descendants of David on this list who might give
me able to help me.

It is possibly caused by it being a very long URL that is being split.
Here it is again in a slightly shorter form
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm
If this doesn't work go to
http://google.com
And enter the words
IGI Batch Numbers British Isles North America
In the search box, Hugh's site should come up on the top of the list

Quite a few people have joined the Gwynedd lists over the past few weeks. For
their benefit I thought it might be appropriate to post the URLs for some of
the most useful sites for family history research relevant to the locality.
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
Is an attempt to transcribe the whole of the index to birth, marriage and
death certificates issued in England & wales between 1837 and 1901. It is not
complete, but it does contain 30 million records, so is well worth a try
http://home.clara.net/tirbach/AW.html
Is the address for the All Wales Lookup Exchange, where family historians
volunteer to do lookups from sources which they own. This page deals with
lookups relevant to the whole of Wales
http://freespace.virgin.net/the.mill/merlkup.htm
Is the Merionethshire Lookup Exchange (same as above, but dealing with
lookups specific to Merionethshire)
http://freespace.virgin.net/isabel.easter/Caern.htm
Is the Caernarfonshire Lookup Exchange
and
http://freespace.virgin.net/isabel.easter/Ang.htm
Is the Anglesey Lookup Exchange
If you require more than one or two lookups it would be worth considering
purchasing some of the excellent and reasonably priced Family History tools
published by Gwynedd Family History Society. Details of what is available can
be found on Gwynedd FHS site at
http://www.gwynedd.fsbusiness.co.uk/
Gwynedd (and other society's) publications are also available, by credit card
from GENFair
http://www.gwynedd.fsbusiness.co.uk/
But be warned, GENFair charges 17.5% VAT on sales, Gwynedd FHS does not!
The GENUKI pages for Gwynedd are
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CAE/ (Caernarfonshire)
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/AGY/ (Anglesey)
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MER/ (Merionethshire)
There is not a lot on the GENUKI pages at the moment, but moves are afoot to
change that!
http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html
Is the URL for Gareth's help page, a mine of information about Welsh
Genealogy, which should be visited by every Welsh Family Historian
http://www.llgc.org.uk/
Is the URL for the National Library for Wales. Another site which is packed
with information, one of the most useful parts of the site is the ISYS
database which has an index of all the Welsh Marriage Licences which have
survived.
My last suggestion is a fairly new, but extremely popular site
<
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/Count...
es.htm#PageTitle>
This site enables you to search for surnames on the IGI on a parish by parish
basis, in a way which is much simpler than that which is offered on the IGIs
own site at http://familysearch.org/

Hiya folks!
My interest is in the BARROW family, which, despite my complete and utter failure to find any trace of the name in Merionethshire on-line, I am 99% certain lived at Llanelltyd up to the early/mid C19th. At that point I believe a branch moved to Somerset. I have an army kit and pay book for a Hugh Barrow (possibly my great-great uncle?) who enlisted at Monmouth in 1837 and whose place of birth is given as "Glanelltyd". My great aunt Elsie also told me about the family property at Llanelltyd so I am fairly certain there is a link. Can anyone please confirm this?

Hello and welcome to the Merionethshire List.
I happened to be looking at the Merionethshire Marriage index for Llanelltyd
for another list member (all promised lookups are on their way) when your
mail arrived and look what was there
From the Marriage index for Merionethshire at Llanelltyd parish Church
13 Aug. 1766 william Barrow of Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, married Margaret
Pugh of Llanelltyd by Licence
16 Jan 1828 William Barrow, single of Llanelltyd parish married Elizabeth
Jones, single, also of Llanelltyd Parish by Banns
13 June 1836
Ellis Jones of Llanelltyd single married Anne Barrow single of Llanelltyd by
Banns
30 Sept. 1822 Morris Evans of Llanelltyd, single M Margaret Barrow S by Banns
5 Oct. 1822 Robert Edward of Llanfachreth M Catherine Barrow of Llanelltyd
both single by Banns
As far as I can see, none of these are still in Llanelltyd by the time of the
1841 census

Dear Ann,
Thanks for your note.
I am only beginning to piece together the Davies side of my family and have
a long way to go. Thanks for your list of the various Margaret Davies in the
area...it really helps.
The fragmentation of parishes and townships in this part of Edeirnion and
Penllyn offers a particular challenge, as others have noted on CLWYD-L. I
found the following list of parishes and townships from History of
Merioneth, Volume 2, helpful in locating specific locations on the OS maps:
Gwyddelwern:
- Bodgynfel
- Bodheulog
- Cynwyd
- Gwyddelwern
- Llanalhaearn
Llandrillo:
- Branas
- Cilan
- Dinam
- Faerdref
- Garthiaen
- Hendwr
- Llandrillo
- Moelysgediw
- Pennant
- Tyfos
Llangar:
- Gwnnodl
- Llangar and Cymer
In addition, the following shows promise as a source if you have access to a
well-stocked library:
Kain, R.J.P. & Oliver, R.P. (2001). Historical Parishes of England and
Wales: An Electronic Map of Boundaries before 1850 with a Gazeteer and

Walters, of Merthyr Tydvil, Wales, arrived on the steamer Teutonic on Wednesday (12 Mar 1897) with her son; Mrs. Walters was a former resident of this city and Plymouth; since she had no other tie in Wales, she returned home; sister of Rev. I was sorting out the reams of documents that I have in my genealogy files in
to a more manageable order earlier today, when I was struck by the amount of
information that I have about people who are not related to me.
For example I have a census print out giving details of my gt grandfather,
his wife and four children in the 1871 census. The same printout has details
of 19 other individuals in 4 other households.
I assume that most of the 150 or so other members of this list have similar
records. If we all transcribed the printouts that we have in our possession,
it could make a significant dent in the lack of on-line transcribed material
for Merionethshire.
If I provided a form for entering this information onto a web site, would
other list members be interested in providing transcriptions of the pages
they have?
regards
Alwyn
Am searching for information on the family of William Charles LEWIS of Bala,
Merionsethshire, Wales, b. 24 Nov 1824 to Lewis LEWIS and Catherine DAVIS. William came
to West Turin, Lewis County, New York before ca.1842 ( he was found in W. Turin in the
1850 U.S. Census). He was living with his brother Robert LEWIS and Gwen LEWIS (Gwen is
assumed to be Robert's wife, but could also be his sister). William married Catherine E.
WILLIAMS (b. 1828), daughter of Evan WILLIAMS, also from Bala. When William left for
America, he was accompained by his friend Hugh JONES, who settled in Lewis County, New
York and became a farmer. William also listed his occupation as "Farmer". Any
information on any of these families would be appreciated.
Thank you.
