Cynllwyd is a township in the Parish of Llanuwchllyn I suspect that
Llanfychllin is also a mistranscription of Llanuwchllyn.
The index for Llanuwchllyn has the following entry which I suspect s the one
you want
Thomas Thomas, Single, of Llanuwchllyn and Grace Jones, Single, of
llanuwchllyn married by licence Sept. 1st 1828.
Copies of surviving marriage licence bonds can be obtained from the National
Library, and I see from the on-line index to marriage bonds
(http://www.llgc.org.uk:81/) that Thomas and Grace's has survived:
JONES, Grace, Llanuwchllyn, MER. 1828, Aug. 30. At Ll. Thomas Thomas.
A.171/337.

Hello,
I wonder if you could look for the marriage of Reese Lewis and Mary (or Mary
Ann) Jones in Merioneth probably around 1800. They immigrated to the U.S. in
the early 1820s supposedly so he could escapee transcription into the English
army to fight Napoleon.
Thanks,
Kathy S.

I have got a copy of the index of marriages for every parish in
Merionethshire from 1754-1837, and for the Conwy Valley 1813-1837. I am happy
to look for your Richard Davies for you, but his date of birth isn't much
help as he could have been married at any age from 14 years old upwards :-)
Do you know, or have any clues as to when he was married (for example do you
have a year of birth for a child)? Any idea which parishes are most likely?
The name of a wife (even just a christian name) would be most helpful for
checking which Richard Davies' might be yours.
All the best
Alwyn

Regretfully not. With so few family historians living in the county it is
unlikely that such an index will be available for many years yet.
Your best hope of searching without visiting the records office would be to
contact the Merionethshire records office and request photocopies of the
relevant pages - I understand that they will post you 10 pages for about £5
UK their address is
archives.dolgellau(a)gwynedd.gov.uk
You mentioned that you had failed to find Winifred during a visit to
Dolgellau in 2000, it may be worth checking the registers of neighbouring
Llanelltyd and Llanfachreth.
Winifred may have anglicised her name on moving to London and may have been
christened Gwen or Gwenllian (or possibly, but less likely, Gwenffriwi)
All the best

Hello again Helen,
As the child was born in London, I suspect that this entry from Pallot's
Marriage index for London is the one you are after:
Charnock, John
Spouse: Edwards, Winifred Marriage Date: 1808
Parish: WHITECHAPEL ST MARY
This is the only info that Pallot's gives, you would have to check the actual
register for St. Mary's Church, Whitechapel for further details. I do not
have access to these unfortunately, but I hope that this little bit helps
Regards
Alwyn

Hello listers. I have just joined the list to check whether anyone may have connections to a WINIFRED EDWARDS born abt 1796 in Dolgellau. Also there was a marriage between Winifred and JOHN CHARNOCK (cooper) abt 1809 which may have taken place in Dolgellau. Is there an index of marriages for that period available?
I noticed from the archives of the Merionethshire list that people were researching the Edwards name.
Thank you. Helen Harris
I have looked through the index of marriages for Merioneth for 1754 to 1837,
but unfortunately I couldn't find any examples of the name CHARNOCK or
anything similar in Dolgellau nor in any other parish in the county
Regards
Alwyn

Hi Listers,
I am researching John CHARNOCK, Winifred EDWARDS, these being my G.G.G.Grandparents. I am having a lot of trouble finding any information about them in their early years.
I know that Winifred was born abt 1786 in Dolgelly, Merionethshire.
& I presume they married abt 1808.
Does anyone on the list have access to the Parish Church Records
and could look up the birth of Winifred EDWARDS and marriage
to John CHARNOCK.
I know that there is a computerised index by Dofydd Hayes but have not been able to locate it.
Any information would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sandy

It has been suggested that there should be a period of "list silence" as a
mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother on part of the day of
her funeral.
The funeral is at 11:30am, on April 9th 2002, followed by committal in St
George's chapel, Windsor. The propose period of silence would be 10am - 4pm
(British Summer Time).
The observance of the period of silence is, of course, voluntary. The list
will not be "shut down" during the period. I would ask that list members
respect the choice of those who choose either to observe or to ignore the
period of silence and not to make an individual's choice the subject of on,
or off, list mailing.

Alwyn
