For Alwyn and others with Llanegryn connections.
With my pack of information which arrived this morning from the Merioneth
Historical and Record Society was a leaflet about the book A History of the
Parish of Llanegryn.
It is available from Allison Favell, 33 Y Groesffordd, Bryncrug, Tywyn,
Gwynedd, LL36 9RP, cost £20 + £5 p.&p. Cheque/P.O. payable to "Llanegryn
Millenium Project".
Hope this helps,
Enid.
Dear Pam,
Among my ancestors is Robert , son of Robert David and Catherine
[Griffith] born in Llangelynin in 1765. As an adult he moved over the hills
to the Llanfihangel y Pennant area where he married. I have lots of
information on this family if of interest.
Best wishes , Wyn.
I was interested to hear of your Llangelynin connections Alwyn as I
have too family from there and I love the little church there - one of
my favourite places I think.
My family - EVANS, GRIFFITHS, PUGH, DAVID, RICHARD - seem to turn up
in Llanegryn and Llangelynin. Does anyone have connections with these
families?
Also is it possible to purchase the book on Llanegryn on line? My
grandfather was choirmaster at Llanegryn in the 1920s and his name is
inscribed on the back of the altar cross.
I would be interested in hearing any history of the area.
best wishes,
Pam (in France)

Hello Pam,
I have a Samuel Evans 1796-1878 with wife Margaret 1800-1877 from Llanegryn
who's granddaughter Elizabeth Jones married a John Griffith of Tal-y-Llyn and
who lived at Ty Coch Bodgadfan in Llanegryn parish and were buried in 1906 &
1909 in Llanegryn Church yard.
Do you think they might be related to your Griffiths and Evanses?
All the best
Alwyn

Thanks Ken, it looks like I' misheard the parish name, but as I have even
more family connections with Llanegryn, than with Llangelynnin, I am even
more intrusted in finding out details about this book

If anyone has access to the 1841 Census for Trawsfynydd, I would be
grateful if they could do a couple of lookups for me.
The farm of Ysgwrn was associated with some of my Lloyds around 1700. In
1851 it is inhabited by Lewis Evans, his wife Mary and three sons. Lewis
and Mary were the grandparents of Ellis Humphrey Evans (1887-1917) who
is better known as the poet Hedd Wyn, about whom an Oscar-nominated film
was made a few years ago. Ysgwrn, or Yr Ysgwrn as it seems to be
generally known now, is the farm where Hedd Wyn grew up, and is still
owned by his nephews.
I am interested in knowing who was living at Ysgwrn in 1841. I would
also like to know where Lewis and Mary Evans were living - Lewis would
have been aged 30 in 1841 and Mary 26, so her age should have been
rounded down to 25. I am told that Lewis Evans moved to Ysgwrn in 1849.
Lewis's father was Evan Williams, so it may be that he was at Ysgwrn.
Thanks for any help,
Ann

Alwyn:
I ran a quick check on the following site:
www.bbc.co.uk/cymru/radio/digwyddiadur/
The only event that I could find was for LLanegryn at 2:00 pm in the village
hall. Launching a book on the history of Llanegryn by Lord Gwilym Prys
Davies.
Bit of a coincidence if there are two launches on the same day.

I caught the back end of a discussion on a radio programme this morning about
the republication on a book about the parish of Llangelynnin. I caught that
the book would be in English & Welsh and that it's launch is to be in the
village hall on Saturday, but failed to pick up details on Title, Author,
Price or Availability.
If any list member knows any more about this book I would be very pleased to
hear from them, as I have a large number of Llangelynnin connections.
