G'day All.
I am outlining some details regarding the HOBBS family in the hope that someone can give me some advice or make a possible connection.
From the Dolgelly Parish Register Catherine Mary HOBBS was Baptised in the St Mary's Church on the 2nd July 1842 and her brother Richard Lewis on the 2nd May 1844.
The parents name is given as James and Jane HOBBS and the fathers trade Butler with the abode Dolgau.
James and Jane moved to London as my Gdad James Lloyd HOBBS was born in Finsbury 1846. From the 1881 census it is stated that Jane HOBBS was aged 73 and that her birthplace was TOWYN MERIONETH.
If Jane HOBBS nee ??was born in Towyn Merioneth in 1808 is there any way I can obtain details of her maiden name or family. I have been through the Dolgelly Marriage register but could not find reference to them.
As James HOBBS was a Butler it is possible that Jane ?? was in "service" and that is how they met,and also the possibily is that they married in Towyn.
I am lead to believe that my middle name LLOYD is a family name and my g.uncle's middle name is LEWIS I am not sure if this has any relevence to Jane ?? family name.
Can anyone tell me if "Dolgau" exists today and any background to it's history.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
regards to all.
Richard Hobbs.
