Subject: [POWYS] Obtaining 1901 census piece & folio numbers
The 1901 Census Online Service provided by the PRO for fairly obvious
reasons does not provide a direct pointer to the piece and folio
numbers or registration district. You can now obtain this information
by inputting the so-called page identification number into a
converter at
http://www.steeljam.co.uk/1901census/1901.html
To obtain the page identification number (pageId)
To the left of every name returned by the PRO 1901 Census database is
a yellow rectangular page icon. By clicking on this icon a hyperlink
(URL) takes you to an image of the relevant census page for which
there is a viewing charge of 75p. However if you move the cursor over
the yellow page icon, without clicking, the URL should appear in the
status bar at the bottom left of the browser window.
Example:
http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/ChargeableServlet?rType=image&pageType=P...
pageId=969947
The multi-digit number 969947 at the end of the text is the required
page identification number.

In Internet Explorer if the status bar is not visible then make sure
it is selected via the View menu. If the URL still does not appear in
the status bar then click and hold on the yellow page icon. When the
menu opens then select and release on 'Copy Link to Clipboard' (with
Internet Explorer) or 'Copy this Link Location' (with Netscape). You
can now paste the URL into a word-processor page.
