Personally, I consider myself to be a family historian rather than a
genealogist, ie I am more interested in how my ancestors lived than in just
collecting their names. Because of this I like to see messages on the lists
of which I am a member dealing with reminiscences of youth from older
members, or "my granny said that when she was a girl they celebrated so and
so by..." or "I saw this article about how people did ... in the 1700's in
North Wales"
Now, I know that such threads are taboo on some lists and cause complaints on
some lists on which they are suffered. How do listers feel about such threads
starting on the North West Wales lists? For or against?
For example:
I noticed today (halloween) children playing "trick or treat", something that
didn't exist in my youth, but next week (bonfire night), I doubt if I will
see any child parading a Guy for money as I did as a child.
Do list members feel that a discussion on halloween, bonfires, thanksgiving,
remembrance, Christmas, New Year, etc., etc., past and present should be seen
as appropriate topics of discussion on these lists or not?

Alwyn
