Hello Margie,
I can appreciate how frustrating it is to ask for help on a list and not get
a reply. When this happens the reason is usually because nobody on the list
has access to the information you require.
Because Gwynedd is a sparsely populated rural area, the list membership is
fairly small, and the numbers of people available to transcribe family
history data, such as census details, into searchable indices is also
limited. So the amount of help available for Gwynedd is much more limited
than it is for more populous areas such as Lancashire or Glamorgan.
Your request is a fairly complicated one, because you don't say where in
North Wales, your family might be in 1871. They would appear to have moved
around quite a lot, your message mentions Pwllheli, Caernarfon, Conwy, the
Conwy Valley and Rhyl. Anybody trying to find this family for you in 1871
would probably have to search the whole of North Wales, a task which is way
beyond what might be excepted of volunteers. Indeed, your family may even
have been in Liverpool in 1871.
So what alternatives are there for you as you are in Canada?
You might like to find out if there is an LDS (Mormon) library close to your
home. In LDS libraries you will be able to view copies of Welsh Census
returns on microfilm.
Have you asked for a look up on the Lancsgen list to see if the family was
already in Liverpool in 1871? If you know that they were not in Liverpool in
1871, then have you asked on the Clwyd list to see if they were still in Rhyl
(where they appear to have been in 1858) - both Lancashire and Clwyd are much
bigger counties than Gwynedd so the chances of finding an answer to your
questions there would be greater.
Do you have details of the family from earlier census returns? Again Rhyl
would seem to be a good bet for 1861, the Clwyd list might be able to help
with this. It appears that they were in the Eglwysbach / Glanconwy area in
1851:
Margaret A. Jones age 32 born in Eglwysbach, (born abt 1849)
John Jones age 31 born in Llansantffraid (aka Glan Conwy) (born abt
1850)
As these are two very small adjacent villages, and I happen to live in one of
them, I could look for the family in 1851 for you fairly easily in my local
library, if you don't already have the information.
I apologise if this response seems rather negative, but hope that it is of
some help
Regards
Alwyn

Hello,
I am in need of your help in finding a family in the 1871 census and I
hope I am writing to the right place. The surname is "Jones" and they were
all born in Wales but ended up in England according to the 1881 census .
The 1881 census read as follows:
Dwelling: 17 Beech Rd.
Census place: Tranmere, Cheshire, England
John Jones age 61 (head) born in Pwllheli, Wales occupation:> Ship
carpenter.
Anne Jones age 64.(wife) born in Tanyrallt, Conway, Wales
Margaret A. Jones age 32 (daughter) born in Eglwysbach, Conway Wales
John Jones age 31 (son) born in Llansantffraid, Conway, Wales
Eliza Jones age 23 (daughter) born in Rhyl, Wales.
---------------------------------------------
If this is the family that I am looking for, there should be one more
"son" listed in the 1871 census and his name would be Owen Jones... born
in 1845 in Caernarvon Wales..
I do hope someone can help me., I live in Canada and I am having a very
difficult time with this long distance search for my family. Looking
forward to your replies. This is my first time posting to your list.
Thank you in advance.
