I am researching a Catherine Isaac who was believed to have been born in around 1743.
Although I have not actually proven any connections with Merioneth as yet, it seems that
Isaac is a rather commoner surname in Merioneth than in Anglesey, so it may be that she
originated there. (In fact the Index to Anglesey Marriages 1754-1813, published by Gwynedd
Family History Society only lists 7 Isaac marriages, and the only Catherine Isaac listed
married a Robert Griffith in 1754).
The information that I do have is that she was married to a John Roberts, son of Robert
Joseph, and was living at Plas Bach, Llanbedrgoch, by 1767, and she died in 1828 at the
age of 85, which suggests a birthdate around 1743.
I have not traced either her christening nor her marriage, so it may be that these took
place outside Anglesey. A recent mailing I have had mentions Isaacs who lived in the
Llanfrothen area, so it may be that Catherine might be a stray from Merioneth. Certainly I
would be grateful to anyone who could pin down either a Catherine Isaac christened around
1743, or married to a John Roberts around the mid 1760s.
