Hi Andy,
Sorry about the confusion of two emails to the list but my first was delayed by two
days, inexplicably, and having just received yours while a friend of mine read it
yesterday on his computer.
The only Daniel Owen I can find on the 1881 census is aged 65 born in Anglesey and
listed as a watchmaker. This may well be your grandfather's grandfather who died soon
after the census.
A son and daughter are listed but both unmarried and aged 37 and 39 respectively so I
don't know where your grandfather came in unless there was another older child having
left the marital home.
This Greenwich House is a mystery and I will keep a lookout for a mention as it is not
listed in the 1851, 1891 or 1901 censuses. There are several 'houses' in Criccieth
such as Manchester House, Stafford House, London House, Suffolk House and Sheffield House
so there may well be a Greenwich, possibly occupied by a mariner.
