Does anyone know what the word "ymddiriedolwyr" means in
relation to a
chapel? Is it the elders or trustees?
Hello Ian,
Ymddiriodolwyr means Trustees, in the legal sense of trustees of a registered
charitable, religious or voluntary organisation. In the case of a chapel,
however, the trustees would invariably be church officials, normally chapel
elders but occasionally a local preacher who was not an elder but who had a right
to attend the quarterly meetings by virtue of his position as a preacher.
Penycaerau (Calvinistic) Methodist Chapel was built in 1774, the only
indication that I can find in books or online of its possible whereabouts is that
there is a bus stop at Penycaerau for a bus that leaves Rhiw at 11:13 goes
through Penycaerau at 11:17 and arrives at Aberdaron at 11:22., does that help? :-}
All the best
Alwyn
