Subject: RE: [GWYNEDD] Location of Maynol ?
Hi Bonnie,
The Bishop of Bangor exercised much secular power over large areas of
north-west Wales, including his manor, 'Maenol Bangor' (most of the
ancient
parish of Bangor) up to, and to a lesser extent after the
Reformation. The
bishop controlled ferries and mills in the maenol/manor, and administered
justice in his court (until early 19th cent.). The name Maenol is
perpetuated in the Vaynol estate, which became the most important house in
the parish, although Penrhyn in the neighbouring parish of Llandegai had
more influence.
Regards,
David Price, Bangor.

Subject: [GWYNEDD] Location of Maynol ?
Can anyone tell me where this was and where it is now, or what it's called
now? There are a couple of little items on Google but they don't answer
my
question.
I have found this referred to in documents at the NLW & in the Rhagarol
D.B
as Maynol or "Manor of Maynol", or Maenol.
It appears that the church owned a lot of the land but there are also
names
of individuals. It also appears to cover several centuries.
Does anyone know? ? ?
Bonnie
