Hi Lizzie,
As I was in the University Library in Bangor today, I looked up the
'Calendar of the University of Wales, 1908-9', and found the following:
1908 Pass List
BIRT, Gladys Winifred, B.A., French, Honours, Class II, Cardiff
(University
College).
You could still contact the University of Wales Registry in Cardiff, who
might be able to give you more details.
Regards,
David Price, Bangor

Apolgies if you receive this message more than once.
I have recently discovered my grandmother's calling card (?for use when
visiting in France) with the following details:
Miss G.W. BIRT, B.A.
Universite du Pays de Galles
Distinction en Francais (Honneurs)
Obviously she has studied a Bachelor of Arts, graduating with Honours in
French at the University of Wales and this would probably have been around
1910. She also attended the Sorbonne in Paris (about 1908-10) but this
may
have been part of her BA studies.
Which University and which Department is she likely to have attended for a
degree like this (she was living in Cardiff at this time but subsequently
moved to Bangor)?
Thanks in advance
Lizzie
