Hi Anne,
My cousin's wife, Margaret Thomas, is researching the family of John
Elias. I was with her at the Carnarvon Archives this week. She is
presently on her way home to South Wales. I will call her later and have
her contact you by email. I know she found some family in Bangor on the
census yesterday.
The National Library of Wales has a display on John Elias presently. I
saw it last week.

Hello Gwynedd Listers
On the 1881 census I recently found my maternal great grandmother
Elizabeth Jane Roberts aged 15 living with her grandfather a John
EL(L)IAS aged 72, a blacksmith. They are living at 2 Glan Mor(e)
Llandysilio, this address was in the Cadnant area of Menai Bridge. Also
at the address was John's wife Mary ELLIAS aged 45, a washerwoman.
This Mary was born in Chester and given that Elizabeth Jane Roberts was
also born in Chester and the 25 year age gap between John & Mary I
suspect that Elizabeth may have been Mary's child by a previous
relationship and therefore the stepdaughter of John Ellias.
Elizabeth Jane Roberts went on to marry a Robert JONES from Menai
Bridge, living at Forgraig , 33 Cadnant Road. They had four children, 2
daughters, Jane & Lizzie (my grandmother), they used the name Elias as
the middle name for both their sons, John and Robert.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any information on
this family especially John ELLIAS.
Many thanks
Anne Mehew
