Hello Kathy,
Greetings from Trawsfynydd, a village about nine miles from
Penrhyndeudraeth.
I found out a little about your relation in a booklet that was published
when the Wales Baptist Union held their Annual Conference in the vicinity
during 1963.
He was also a minister in Seion [B] Porthmadog - a town about three miles
from Penrhyndeudraeth from 1870 - 1879. The church in Penrhyn is called
Bethel and it is still a practising church.
The following was in Welsh, so I have tried to translate it for you.
'J. Gwyndud Jones when he was a minister in Porthmadog found out that some
Baptists in Penrhyn. were members of other Churches. He tried to get them
together and his purpose was for them to unite with the Scotch Baptists who
worshiped at Bryngwyn [another church], but it was not possible to unite at
that time. He had the loan of the Independent Church and he and the Rev.
Edward Parry, Ffestiniog, held a service there on 29 April, 1879. At a
fellowship meeting following the service it was found that nine members were
ready to re-start the Cause. The Church was bought from the Independents.
They had a new church to go to and the Rev. J. G. Jones took care of the
church from 1880 - 1895 when they finally succeeded in uniting with the
Scotch Baptists'.
The late Rev. Samuel Pierce has written a book about 'The History of
Penrhyndeudraeth and district Baptists' and I found out today that there is
a copy of it in our local Archives Dept. and I could go there to have a look
if you wish.
Best of luck,
Alice.

Hi
I am new to the list so please excuse my spelling of Welsh place names.
My gguncle John G Jones was the baptist minister in Penrhyndeudraeth
about 1925. I have an article from a Liverpool paper about him being
there fro a fundraiser for the church. He was also listed as being the
oldest practising Baptist minister in Wales, He was 93
I am trying to find anything on the old dear. I know that he was married
and that he was born in Ruabon in 1832 and that is about it.
I sent an email to the village web site about 2 months ago asking if
they could put me in touch with someone from the church, I have not
heard back from them at all. So now I am asking if any of the list
members could help me out
