Alwyn,
If all the lists had the same protocol I think it would be a reasonable
request. However, I don't want to have to remember what I can't or can say
from list to list. Most often the list is clearly used for ancestry. I
think it's wonderful to share traditions of our ancestors and what life was
like at the time or where a neighborhood is or was. On some lists, if it's
not about genealogy it's out. I hope we don't become that restrictive.
Politicians and religion are no no's any where in the world, unless it is
about the politics or religious beliefs of a generation.

Subject: [GWYNEDD] List guidelines
I have mixed feelings about list guidelines web sites. On the one hand they
can be a useful source for those who are uncertain about what is or is not
acceptable on a list, especially as list rules and guidelines can vary from
one
list to another.
On the other hand a published source of "Dos" and "Don'ts" can
become a
source of controversy, rather than a resolution to it, if a pedant uses it
to
"quote chapter and verse" at other list members.
Here are two examples of list guidelines sites which the list administrators
are willing for me to use as examples:
For the LincsGen mailing list
<A

com/~englin/Lincsgen_faq.htm</A>
For the Sussex Plus mailing list
<A
HREF="http://www.juliec.clara.net/sxplus/index.htm">http://w....
net/sxplus/index.htm</A>
I don't want to have a discussion about the "contents" of these sites -
such
as a row about LincsGens prohibition on discussing political matters, for
example. But I would like to ask list members if they think that having a
similar
site for the northwest Wales sites would be a good or a bad idea.
As this is a subject of general, rather than individual county, interest, I
would be grateful if it was kept to the Gwynedd list and not carried over to
the three county lists.
Regards
Alwyn -
