Hi Listers
I wonder if there's someone who can give me some historical background to Gwalchmai.
I have a Mary ROBERTS who came to the village from Llanynghenedl and had four children
but never married.
She doesn't seem to have sought parish help and have not found any court order for
support from the father/s, and she seems to have supported
her family through knitting stockings.
These are the details:
Parish register: 1808 24 April baptised Mary d/o Robert & Jane ROBERTS ,
Tybach, Llanynghenedl.
1839 17 November bpt Jane natural d/o Mary ROBERTS, Llaindely.
Census: 1841 Gwalchmai Mary ROBERTS 30, Jane 1.
PR: 1842 16 April bpt Anne illegitimate d/o Robert ROWLANDS,
of Gwalchmai, labourer & Mary ROBERTS.
1844 8 December bpt Robert illegitimate s/o Mary ROBERTS, Malyn
1850 6 October bpt William s/o Mary ROBERTS, farm servant, Fon du
Her son Robert became a stonemason and moved to Newborough.
Any information to help fill out the story of Mary ROBERTS would be very welcome.
