Charles WALLING had close connections with North Wales
He was born in Burton, Westmoreland in ABT 1852 but he married Mary J JONES
at Manchester Cathedral in 1875. She was born in Llanfechell, Anglesey in
ABT 1851.
In 1871 he had been living with his parents in Glanadda, his father was
Thomas WALLING, a Mole Catcher born in Endmoor Westmoreland / Lancashire /
Liverpool Lancashire in ABT 1822. His mother Sydney THORLEY born in
Llanwrog ABT 1829
In 1861 they were living in Iron Square, Bangor though his father was not
home, he was a lodger in Penfro Caerhun where he was working as a Mole
Catcher.

The accident at Standedge Tunnel
Leeds Times Saturday 29th September 1888
On Thursday night the 6.30 pm train from Leeds to Manchester was about 800
yards into the tunnel when a connecting rod on the engine broke and pierced
the firebox.
The driver and fireman were badly scalded.
Driver - Lawrence Green age 46 of 25 Liverpool Road, Salford Stoker -
Charles Walling age 37 of 6 Taylor Street, Regent Road, Salford
They were taken to Huddersfield Infirmary

Shortly before eleven o'clock on Sunday morning, Lawrence Green, engine
driver on the L&NWR succumbed to the scalds and shock to the system.

Saturday morning the fireman, Charles Walling age 37 of Taylor Street,
Regent Road, Salford died from the effects of the injuries he sustained.
