Leafing through a little booklet amongst my recently inherited family history stuff, I
nearly fell off my chair - there on p. 12 of "Abermaw/Barmouth by Ann Rhydderch 1977)
was the photo of a young lady whom I am sure was my grandfather's sister in law! The
photograph is entitled "Staff of Barmouth Council School, 1911" and she is the
young woman on the left of the front row of three.
I am positive that it is Nellie (nee WILLIAMS) who became the wife of Owain Llewellyn
WILLIAMS (b 1881 Barmouth) as I have a family photo of her with a friend (Anne Catherine
OWEN) taken in 1910. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whom I should contact to
confirm Nellie's position with the school and would I be correct in assuming that she
would have had to have been single then?
Owain, I believe, was elected Mayor of Barmouth from 1927-28 (as was his older brother,
Robert (my Taid), in 1911-12 and again in 1935-36) and died of peritonitis about 1928 on
the way to hospital some miles away. My Taid was a tougher cookie and survived peritonitis
and the trip from Barmouth to Bangor hospital when he was in his 80's!
Thanks in advance.
