Sandy,
Sorry to but in, but the mention of OWENS and ROBERTS and
JONES caught my attention.
I am looking for the origins of my ROBERTS family, which as
far as I can determine, resulted from the immigration of Owen ROBERTS to
Australia about 1859.
He was born 26/12/1839 in Shrewsbury and was the only son of
Owen ROBERTS and SarahHILL. Both his parents died before 1845 and after
their death he lived with an aunt, Margaret WALKER (nee ROBERTS). She
listed her birth place as Bangor in the 1851 Census.
Assuming that Owen AND Margaret ROBERTS were both born in
Bangor I searched for the births of both.
I arrived at their approximate birth dates from the death
records of both Owen and Margaret and after extensive searching I found
the following family which I consider to be most likely to be that to
which both may belong.
Father Robert JONES
Mother Jane OWEN who were married in BANGOR on 2 Apr
1903
Their children were :-
Grace born 1803 Llangefni
William 1804 "
Owen 1805 "
Owen 1806 "
Margaret 1809 "
David 1811 "
All these children were named ROBERTS.
Could this family have any connection with yours ?
Hugh ROBERTS
Brisbane, Australia.

Yes, I had thought of him possibly being a mariner and I have some in
my Jones in Flintshire but could the wife/mother be with him - was
that usual?? I have no mother for these boys - one or the other is
always in the grandmother's household. I thought at first from the
18881 census that I had orphans but when I got to see the 1871 census
- young Joseph yet to be born this year and there is brother William
alone in the same household and no mother then either. But thanks for
the websites there is one I haven't checked yet - so off to do that
now!!!
thanks,
Sandy
