I posted some more information on some of the graves in Glanadda before
Christmas and have been asked to put something together for Gwynedd Roots so
been going through all the names in the original article which has produced
some interesting stories.
One burial was from the sinking of SS APAPA off Anglesey on 28th November
1917 - Ida Mabel JOHNSON.
She was the wife of Edward Odlum JOHNSON, Colonial Treasurer of Sierra
Leone. He is not listed in the casualty lists for the APAPA but his death
is in the BMD as lost on the APAPA.
But there are indications that he lived on until 1932 when he died on
Guernsey or at least someone with exactly the same name and age who married
someone who seems to be Ida's sister in 1918.
I have been wondering if he was found to have survived the sinking or was
not on the ship. I can't see any explanation in newspaper archives etc. So
wondering if anyone remembers any mention of him any books about the
sinking.

I've searched West African newspapers such as the Gold Coast Nation,
Nigerian Pioneer etc and they all refer to the death of Mrs Mabel or Mrs E O
Johnson but I've not come across any report that the husband also died.
BT 334 itself records the deceased as Mrs E O Johnson lost on the Apapa.
Too much of a coincidence to have two men named Edward Odlum?
