Hello Judith,
Thank you for your very quick and informative reply!
For starters, I did not realize that there was a second Llangelynin parish
near Conway. The DNA test regarding the Pugh's is relatively recent and
that piece of information is certainly helpful. That opens up my field of
investigation considerably. I do have access to the Gwynedd FHS
publications, so that gives me other avenues.
The Eglwysbach marriage register lists Mary Owens and Hugh Hughes as
witnesses. I have done a number of searches to try to pin them down.
However, with those two names being extremely common in the area the task
quickly becomes very daunting!! But I do return to it from time to time.
Thank you, also, for taking the time to check the baptism and marriage
register transcriptions.
The Caernarvon Archives have been visited to no avail.
You have supplied some very helpful information and I appreciate it. I
will keep you posted if I stumble on to anything.

Hello Dave,
I'm sorry that you are having such trouble finding the family of Richard
Williams.
Just a thought, I suppose you know that there is also a Llangelynin near
Conway, which might explain why Richard was living in Llanrwychwyn at the
time of his marriage to Catherine. Do you have access to the Gwynedd FHS
publications for this church? You might find his parents in there. Does the
Eglwysbach marriage register give witness names? They could be family
members and give you a clue to help your search.
I have found, in the past, that places have been mistakenly listed as being
in Merionethshire, so it doesn't hurt to check all avenues, especially as
you say he was born in Caernarvonshire.
I have the Llangelynnin baptism and marriage register transcriptions but
there is no Richard Williams baptized there in 1808 or surrounding years.
Possibly you might like to contact the Caernarvon Archives, who hold all
the
Parish Registers and ask for a look up in Llanrwychwyn.
Sorry I cannot supply you with the information you require.
Best wishes with your continuing research,
Judith

Subject: [GWYNEDD] Richard Williams
I have been searching - fruitlessly - for many years for my
great-great-grandfather, Richard Williams. A recent DNA test suggests that
he may be descended from the Pugh family of the parish of Llangelynin in
Merionethshire.
Here is what is known about Richard:
- According to his US naturalization papers, he was born in the county of
Caernarvonshire in 1808.
- He married Catherine Jones of Maenan Township in Caernarvonshire at St.
Martin's Church on 10 March 1832. St. Martin's is in the parish of
Eglwysbach in Denbigh County.
- Their marriage register states that Richard was living in Llanrhychwyn
parish in Caernarvonshire at the time of their marriage.
- Richard and Catherine subsequently emigrated to the United States
arriving
at the port of New York on 14 August 1832.
Neither of his parents nor any siblings have been found.
Does anyone on the list know anything about this Richard? Any help would
be
greatly appreciated!
Dave Williams
