Hi List - I would be really grateful of any help as I have hit a real brick
wall. I have been looking for my Gt.Grandparents Marriage Certificate.
Their
names are Robert Williams and Mary Lewis (I don't have any middle names)
they were both born around Pwllheli, Carnarvonshire.
This is them on the 1901 Census
National Archives Ref RG13 Piece 5263 Folio 33 Page18 Schedule No.107

William Williams Age 3 Son " " " (My Grandfather)
Margaret Williams Age 2 Daughter " " "
Mary Williams (nee Lewis) only spoke Welsh.I know Lewis is her maiden name
because it is on her son William Hugh Williams birth certificate.
Additional Information
I have contacted the Archives Officer at Gwynedd because I couldn't find
Llanfallikys on the map and they said the birthplace of Robert Williams is
the
parish of Llanfaelrhys which is adjacent to the parish of Aberdaron, and
closely connected to the parish of Rhiw.
Mary Williams (formerly Lewis) was born in the parish of Carngiwch, the
present day spelling is Carnguwch - another parish on the Llyn peninsula.
So far I have bought three marriage certificates (all wrong)
Mary Lewis and Robert Williams Jun 1898 Bangor 11b 830
Anne Lewis and Robert Williams Dec 1890 Pwllheli 11b 791
Mary Lewis and Robert Williams Sept 1892 Ruthin 11b 466
Checklists for certs were Robert's occupation - Railway Carter and possible
places of birth i.e.Robert - Llanfaelrhys and Mary - Carnguwch both
Caernarvonshire
I can’t find any other possibles.
I entered on IGI the batch number for Carnguwch and only one Mary Lewis
came up, I must admit I think she is the one as her fathers name was Hugh Lewis
and mother Ann.
My Grandfather (Mary Lewis’s son) was William Hugh Williams and their first
daughter was named Ann. But when I checked dates she would have been 33 on
the 1901 Census not 27 as stated. Robert was also 27. Do you think she
could have lied about her age, not wanting to appear older than her husband,
those sort of things are unimportant these days, but could have been an
embarrassment back then. What do you think?
These are my Gt.Grandparents. On my other branches I am back as far as
Gt.Gt.Gt.Gt.Grandparents, so really frustrating that I can't move on this
one, I would really appreciate some help.
Best wishes Shirley (nee Williams)
