Hello,
I am lookiing for any information about Abercaseg Farm in Bethesda. I know
that today it is a private dwelling rather than a farm. I believe
that conoeing
etc goes on there.
I am interested in the origin of the name Abercaseg.
Many thanks

aber 1. estuary, confluence
2. stream
caseg mare
It's rather strange that the name exists as higher up to the east of
Bethesda the stream is labelled 'Afon Caseg' and not 'Aber Caseg' and
the confluence of Afon Caseg and Afon Ogwen is further west. It's
source is near to 'Ffynnon Caseg' (SH678650), a small lake nestling
in 'Cwm Caseg' between the peaks 'Yr Elen' and 'Carnedd
Llewelyn'.
For the location go to
http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/
Click on the red circular panel (I want to Get-a-map) at the bottom right.
Type in the grid reference SH678650.
You will be presented with either a section of the Ordnance Survey
1:25,000 or 1:50,000 maps.
You can zoom in or out as you wish and also view adjacent sections
via the panel on the left.
