I have purchased the Cheshire 1841 census from Stepping Stones and some of the pages were
unreadable. I checked them out at Chester Record Office and they were perfect. I got in
touch with them and they asked me which page numbers they were. They then sent me a disc
with just those pages on. I now find thats totally unworkable. I think they should have
sent me the whole disc considering the price of them. I would recommend Archive CD Books,
I sent for the 1861 census and so far no problems.

Hi Alwyn,
I can`t speak for the quality of the Merioneth 1841 version but I have the SAL. ANG, and
CAE versions and I really have no complaints about the quality of the images on any of
them. Okay, there are odd pages which are suspect but I put that down to severely faded
originals which they haven`t been able to enhance even with the latest scanning
technology. The printable Index is a real time saver too. Certainly 100 better than the
1851 Shropshire I purchased from My Censuses.
You are welcome to test them. I can pop them in if you remind me of the number of your
house off list. I have moved from Llangystenin so no use calling!
Cheers,
Keith Roberts.

Has any list member purchased a copy of the 1841 Census for Merioneth (or
anywhere else) from a company called Stepping Stones, and if they have can
they comment on the quality of the images?
I have a copy of the Merioneth census for 1841 from another company, but in
order to save disk space they have reduced the quality of the images which
has made many of them illegible. I dont mind paying for another version,
but I dont want to waste money on another CD which is illegible.
So I would like to know if the image quality on the Stepping Stones version
is at least as true as the (often poor) quality of the fiche version or is
disk space a more important issue for the production company than
legibility.
All the best
Alwyn
