Hi Ian
You may well be right about someone helping him or the family as mother found a photo
which looks like a nurse, but she has mislaid it but it has no name on the back.
I have already sent chq and a form to Gwynedd Archives re the school in Garndolbenmaen
as she was told he
enjoyed the school choir their, we also believe he left the village in his teens to work
as a farm laborour. The father Hugh died in 1911 the Mother and one of the daughters in
1918 from Influenza/Phuemonia and that the property according to the deeds was sold by one
of the other daughters in 1921.
So the search will go on.
Many thanks for your feed back.
Much appreciated.
Regards Jeanette

So was Hugh Jones just the first husband of your ancestor's mother? As a
half-sibling, he may have felt excluded and that wd be more than enough to
carry some opprobrium through life.
Maybe there were also hard times? Did he and his mother spend anytime under
the care of the parish? In the workhouse? Gwynedd Archives would be able
to help with the location of the nearest workhouse for Garndolbenmaen.
People took on middle names for all sorts of reasons. There may not be an
Oscough family connection through being related but Oscough may have been
someone who helped your family or who employed them. Not everyone with the
name "Winston" has links to the famous man, for example!
There is loads more you can look up to try to find out so good luck and get
back to us!
Yours,
Ian
