Hello List,
I became very interested in two posts in this digest because branches of my
family feature in both.
First of all I noticed that Christine is interested in the area of
Llanenddwyn etc., My paternal line, WYNNE lived in various farms at different times
in this part of Merionethshire. One of the farms was TY MAWR.
The other interesting place mentioned was Llanllyfni in Caernarvonshire.
I have a marriage of 1847 between my great great grandparents, Griffith
ROBERTS and Catherine ROBERTS. Both lived at GORNANT ISA, Llanenddwyn at the time
of marriage, his father was CADWALADR ROBERTS, farmer, and her father was
ROBERT HUGHES, Quarryman. Both were of full age. Now, having already done my
early homework, I have investigated Llanenddwyn for the Wynne family and the
family of Griffith Roberts.
However, the 1851 census showed me that Catherine Roberts was born in
Llanllyfni in Caernarvonshire. I also assumed that she used a patrynomic when she
married, having a different surname from her father.
My problem is, that I have failed to find any reference for a baptism for
Catherine in Llanllyfni, mainly because most of my time was taken up with my
research in Llanenddwyn,or Llanaber, Llanddwywe and a fewothers along the line.
But Llanllyfni has remained somewhat of a mystery to me.
So if anyone can help me track down Robert HUGHES, Quarryman, I would be
most grateful.
as an added piece of information, family lore has Catherine Roberts, nee
Roberts, as being Irish. I really would like to find out how this could be.
Maybe it was one of her parents who was Irish. My assumption comes from
investigation into other branches of my family lore, that put certain members as
being from particular places in Wales, then it proved on investigation that it
was actually the parents and not that individual that hailed from these places.
Sorry to go on a bit, but I am on a roll, and don't know when to stop. <grin>
My best wishes to all,
Maureen Jenkins
Rhondda, South Wales.
