Can someone help me with the confusion of Welsh names? I have the
publications of Llanuwchllyn Parish Registers here at home and I've been
looking up the baptisms of the children of David Thomas [Dafydd Tomos] and
Catherine Rowland. In this publication when there is a surname it is used,
so may I assume if there's no surname the name will go by the Welsh system?
Example:
1745: 20 Dec: Catherine daughter of David Thomas and Catherine [baptized].
1748: 4 Jan: Catherine David is buried.
Is there a way to tell if these two are the same person. Later in 1748 a
daughter in this family is named Catherine.
Another example:
1745: 20 Dec: John, son of David Thomas and Catherine is baptized.
1746: 7 Jan: Jno David, infant is buried
In the latter instant it appears to be that it would be John ap David.
So How do I enter this into my genealogy program? I use Personal Ancestry
File.
Since the father is entered as David Thomas, my program wants to treat
Thomas as the surname.
I'll appreciate any help you can give me.
