A reminder to list members that all messages sent to Rootsweb mailing lists
must be in PLAIN TEXT. Letters sent in Rich Text or HTML will be rejected by
the Rootsweb computer and won't be seen by other list members.
The advantage of Rootsweb accepting only Plain Text messages is that viruses
etc can't be sent in plain text. The disadvantage is that many modern
computers don't send plain text messages out by default, so you have to
choose Plain Text in the options bar of your e-mailer programme before
sending a message to the list.
Unfortunately some e-mail programmes are incapable of sending plain text
messages - mainly free use ones which need to send HTML adverts to "pay" for
the use of their services.
Family Historians who rely on advert dependant e-mail programmes that are
unable to send Plain Text messages to the Rootsweb lists are advised that
the best place to post their Family History Requests and Queries would be on
message boards, rather than on mailing lists. For Example:
http://www.rootschat.com/
http://www.british-genealogy.com/
http://boards.ancestry.com/
All of which are free to use
All the best
