Hi Keith
I want to thank you for your help. I did down load the medal record for
Henry Drakeley, but it didn't really give very much information about him.
It listed his Regiment number in the Dragoon Guards as GS/21445 and D/16732
and a Victory Medal roll number CC/103B/8 with a page number of 533. It
does not say were he was from or when he was killed. I think you may be on
to something, He may have been born in Aston, Birmingham, but I think he
must have worked in Cloacaenog Denbighshire in Wales in 1901 as a yardman
when he was 16 years old. In your other information did it tell you who
were his parents and siblings? Would you be able to send my the census
record that you have saved?
Thanks again
Lorne

Hello Lorne,
This may/or may not! be of some help to you. In the 1901 census I find only
one Henry Drakeley of the right age living with parents and siblings in
Aston, Birmingham, but he was born Birmingham and not London so perhaps he
is the wrong one. There is a WW1 army medal record for one Henry Drakeley of
the Dragoon Guards which you can download for the sum of £3.50 BP. from:
http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details-result.asp?Edoc_
Id=2843468&queryType=1&resultcount=2
If the census record is any good to you I have saved it.
Regards, Keith Roberts

I am looking for information about my grandfather Henry Drakeley. I believe
he was born in London England in 1893 and was killed in Belgium or France
1918 during WW 1. I think he worked as a yardman in Clocaenog Denbighshire.
Wales in 1901. I believe he traveled to Canada and married my grand mother
Alice Dobbs in Winnipeg Canada. My father was born in Winnipeg in 1917.
His name was also Henry Drakeley. From what my father told me, my
grandfather went back to England from Canada and joined the British army and
was killed in 1918.
