Dear List,
having come to the end of the line with the Welsh side of my Llanllyfni Williams', I
decided on a whim to follow the "Empty" line of John R Williams, who emigrated
to the US in 1845. All the info I had was his baptism date, when he emigrated and his
wifes name.
I entered his name, and the name of the farm where he was born in Llanllyfni into google.
Lo and behold, there was a burial record for his wife and daughter (with his name and
"Tal Eithin" in brackets). Bingo. I now had the town they were buried. I
searched the town's website and came across the library, so I fired off an email to
them, just to ask if they had any records for that time. 2 days later I got a reply, as
follows:
"On July 17, 1845, the ship Republic left Liverpool, England for America. On board
was William R Williams, "Great Grandfather of the Taleithan family". The group
of 53 arrived in the Cambria area, still known today as the "Welsh Prairie". It
was October and they erected a series of log cabins that were located on William R
Williams land where they spent the
winter. They were the first Welsh that came here with many more that followed.
Cemetery records show that John R Williams, "Taleithin" died on 2/24/1870, his
wife, Mary died on 4/12/1906. John R. Williams, "Taleithan" died on 5/08/1901,
his wife, Kate died 6/23/1924"
Now thats the background. My question to the list is: does anyone else out there have
relatives who emigrated as part of this group of 53?
Regards,
Dewi
