There is only one William * Roberts who fits your details on the 1861
Llandudno census:
RG9/4359 Folio 88 Page 55 Schedule 322
No 9 Penyffrith, Llandudno
William Roberts Head married 35 Copper Miner born Amlwch Anglesey
Elizabeth Roberts Wife married 32 born Amlwch Anglesey
Elizabeth Roberts daughter 6 Scholar born Llandudno Caernarfonshire
John Roberts son 3 born Llandudno Caernarfonshire
WILLIAM ROBERTS son 1 born Llandudno Caernarfonshire
There are too many William Roberts of the same age born in Amlwch to try and
trace the head of the family back to earlier census without further
information.
As you have William Jr's birth date, your best option would be to contact
the registrar at Llandudno to obtain a birth certificate. This will give you
Mrs Robert's maiden name. With her maiden name you should be able to obtain
a marriage certificate for William and Elizabeth (if this is the right
family), which will give details of both parties parents, which will help to
find them in earlier census returns and or parish records.
Contact details for the Registrar at Llandudno can be found on this web
page:

I hope that this is of some help,
All the best
Alwyn

Pwnc/Subject: [GWYNEDD] William Stephenson ROBERTS
I am looking for ancestors of William Stephenson Roberts was born at
LLANDUDNO, North Wales on 4 Aug 1859,
He was the son of William Roberts. William then aged 9 and Thomas his
younger brother then aged 7 who were orphaned before they started school ,
entered Cowley Cottage ( later to become Salesian House) a Catholic School
for boys at Cowley near Oxford.
4 or 5 years after attending Cowley William attended a French school at
Chester which was apparently 17 miles from Liverpool. He later served an
apprenticeship in Civil Engineering at White Haven, said to be a seaport of
Cumberland.
The brothers sailed from Liverpool on the ‘Lammermoor’ on 10 Mar 1879 and
arrived at Melbourne Australia on 10 Jun 1879..
Unfortunately the passenger list of the vessel has not yet been transcribed
, nor is there a record of the ship being in Australian waters at the time,
or having arrived at Melbourne in Jun 1879.
Any help that listers can provide would be greatly appreciated , and if this
list is not the one I should post to – would someone please point me in the
right direction.
Thanks in anticipation
Ken Wall
