Hello Phil Jones,
I am descended from Collwyn ap Tangno, Lord of Eifionydd. The head of the
fifth of the ffteen tribes of Wales.
I cannot say whether Osborn Wyddel is also one of my ancestors.
My maiden name was Wynne, and cannot go further back with that with any
certainty because I cannot find a baptism for Robert Wynne of Cefn Cymera who
lived from 1716 to 1761.
However, it is through his wife Margaret Evans of Bleiddbwll that Griffiths
Pedigrees of 1914 that I can trace my ancestry back to Collwyn ap Tangno.
She is mentioned in her father's will and that apparently, gives her the reason
for her inclusion. Her father was Evan Ellis, and his father was Ellis
Evans, etc.,
Sorry I cannot answer your question on the wife of Osborn Wyddel though.
All I know is that Osborn Wyddel means Osborn the Irishman. I also know that
after the death of his father Robert Wynne, a yonger son born in 1759 became
the butler to the Vaughans of Gorsygedol in Llanddwywye. I was told that
landed families would very often take on lesser family members as servants as a
sort of benevolence.
Cefn Cymera is situated in Llanbedr Parish, very close to Harlech. I am
desended from the second son of the Estate, so the estate passed down a
different line. Robert Wynne died in his fortyfifth year and left a brood of
children for his widow to raise. I suppose that would account for her having to
borrow nine poiunds off her father, and hence the mention in his will.
I hope you find this interesting at least.
All the best,
Maureen Wynne as was.
Rhondda
