I agree with Alwyn that this could be a twin baptism BUT there are instances (eg in the
Pen Lon chapel, Pwllheli, baptism register which gives both parents' full names - and
mother's maiden name) of instances such as the one below where the child's surname
seems to bear NO relation at all to those of either of the parents.
I have wondered about whether in these cases the name of a maternal or paternal
grandparent may be being used "in full" as it were but I have not tested this.
Feasibly, John Williams could have been the son of a William Griffiths after whom the
child was named?
I have one clear instance from my own family - Owen Roberts, Bodwyddog, Aberdaron, had a
son James Owen (1780-1853) who had a son Owen Owen (James' will) also known as Owen
Roberts (census) and found in Rhyllech, Llannor. I do not recall Owen's baptism entry
but it would have been in Aberdaron parish church where the ".. son/dau of .. .. and
.. his wife" formula was used in the register. So, if it followed the formula in
use, it would have just said "Owen" rather than "Owen James",
"Owen Owen(s)" or "Owen Roberts".
Yours,
Ian
