Hello Alwyn,
Hope you are well. Excellent point you have raised. The entry I have
from BT's clearly shows William Griffith. I have sent an e-mail to Dolgellau
to ask them if they could confirm the entries in the PR's. Will let you
know.
regards
Geraint

Subject: [GWYNEDD] ATB: Naming Conventions
Children with two given names are very, very uncommon in Merioneth as
early
as 1810. The entry that you have doesn’t "feel" right. It might be worth
comparing the Bishop Transcripts with the Parish Records to see if both
agree.
How clear is the record that you have seen? It is possible that William
and
Griffith are twins? - William & Griffith the sons of John Williams, rather
than William Griffith a single individual.
All the best
Alwyn

I have been trying for a long time to find the baptism entry for William
Jones, 1810 - 1812 , Llanfair. Father is John Williams Blacksmith.
I have found two very interesting entries in Llanfair Juxta Harlech as
follows:
Marriage 6/8/1810 - John Williams widower and Margaret Jones spinster were
married by Banns.
Baptism 7/10/1810 - William Griffith son of John Williams Blacksmith and
Margaret Jones his wife.
Has anyone got any ideas or advice on these entries?? The date of Baptism
is
good for my William Jones but where does the Griffith come from.
regards
Geraint
