I am sorry that I confused people on Catherine Pritchards name .... I put
the Evans name in to show that is was her maiden name.In our family
today...all the women use there maiden name as there middle name. With
Catherine....I have just seen it as Catherine Pritchard.

Dear Bob,
A second christian name, in the sense that we understand it, would have been
quite unusual (but not unheard of) in the early 19th century. Much more
likely the two posisbilities already outlined (a) that the wife's surname
was maintained (I have an example in my own family tree that is a little bit
more clear-cut of a Jane Goodman becoming a Jane Goodman Jones). or (b) the
wife was the daughter of an Evan Pritchard (2 Pritchards marrying wouldn't
have be unheard of).
The wife may have, on occasion, returned to her maiden name on the death of
the husband (and, one assumes, possibly had always been known to some by her
maiden name rather than married name through life.
Regarding Owen Pritchard, father of Henry Pritchard, there may be a degree
of lateral thinking required at this time of patronymic change; Owen may
have been the son of a Richard or the son of a "Mr X Pritchard", hence
Owen's listing may be "Owen Pritchard", "Owen X" or "Owen X
Pritchard".
Further complicating searches are 2 factors: the variability of spelling
(Pritchard=Prichard=Prichart=Richard=Richards &c), and the possibility of
typographical or transcribing errors in databases (Gwynedd Archives has some
"Sorton" material mis-indexed under "Gorton", for example).
The other comment that is very true is that sometimes families seemingly
didn't "follow the rules" so I have, in my own family history an Owen
Roberts, son James Owen, and, in turn son (of James) Owen Roberts (after his
paternal grandfather). (T C Griffiths, chart 220).
There are a plethora of web databases you can use with good links from
GENUKI.
Owen, having a child in ca 1814, is likely to have died between 1814 and
1857 and so you might find his will indexed on

Yours,
Ian
