I don't know if my Owen family is related to the above individuals or not but an Owen
descendant is living at this abode today. There are 2 wills I found relating to this
property if anyone is interested:
I) Rhees Griffith, Yeoman, Sarnfaen: Will probated 27 May 1756: 1) Eldest son, Griffith
Rhees, gets one pound, one shillling; 2) Second son, Evan Rhees, gets one pound, eleven
shillings, and six pence; 3) The rest to daughter, Jane Rhees, who is married to Rhees
Jones.
II) Evan Rees, Farmer, Sarnfaen: Died 06 Sept 1834 (age 74), Will probated 28 Oct 1834:
Estate is left to daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth, equally.
Evan Rees' wife was Sarah who died 09 Jun 1826 (age 65). They are buried in the
Llanddwywe Cemetery, along with a grandson, Owen Owens (DOD 28 Jul 1859 - age 25), son of
Griffith and Margaret Owen. Also buried at this cemetery is Jane, a daughter of Griffith
and Margaret Owen, who died 07 Jane 1889 (age 47) and a son, William, who died at Cae Tani
11 Apr 1870 (age 26).
I believe this Margaret Owen is the daughter of Evan Rees who is named in his will. I
found a marriage of a Margaret Evans and Griffith Owen in Llanddwywe 09 Oct 1830. From
the census, the names of their children were Evan, Owen, Griffith, Sarah, Jane, John, and
William. Griffith Owen, father, is listed as being from Llanfihangel-y-Traethau.
On the 1841 and 1851 census, Griffith and Margaret Owen, are living at Sarnfaen. On the
1861 and 1871 census, the family is living at Cae Tani. Griffith dies 03 May 1879 at Cae
Tani and leaves all his estate to wife Margaret. On the 1881 census, son Evan is living
at Cae Tani.
Maybe the above information will help someone with their research.
