Thanks for your suggestions - would love to see the book of letters from
Welsh emigrants. I'll try your Google suggestion.
The emigrant was William E. Phillips, son of Evan Phillips, of Llanycill and
William's wife, Margaret Davies of Bryn Banon, Llanfawr. They settle in
Oneida County, New York. Actually the Welsh family I'd like to learn more
about is Margaret's maternal great grandfather John Robert supposedly of
Caer Gai, Llanuwchllyn.

Subject: Re: [GWYNEDD] Stateside research
There are wills in the States, of course, and sometimes gravestones will
give more of a clue. House - or other - names may reflect parish or farm of
origin (thinking about my own relation who named his home Chapel in the USA
after one of his home farms "Penycaerau").
There is a great book (forget the name at present) of letters from Welsh
emigrants back home published in the 1960s (google Welsh and emigrants in
GoogleBooks). Gwynedd Archives may be able to help with the few lists of
emigrants that exist - I have a few articles... Just what, out of interest
was the name??
Yours,
Ian
