'Suffolk Sue's' way of getting into the 1911 census worked wonderfully
........ but only for a limited time!!
'findmypast' were on to it pretty quickly and unfortunately it stopped working a
while ago. A great shame as it would have been great for the Welsh census - as it was a
very good way of checking you had the correct Jones or Roberts without spending money on
credits for the wrong person.

It no longer works as Findmypast fixed this little loophole a few weeks ago.

This is rather a long shot but if you don't ask you may never know!
My gt grandfather, Thomas PALING, became the proprietor of a hotel on Neville Crescent,
Llandudno, in the early years of the 20th Century. I think that the hotel was called
"Haddon". I am not 100% sure of the name but I know that it was definitely on
Neville Crescent. Thomas retired as a Railway Station Master in Warwickshire in 1899. I
don't think he moved to North Wales until after his wife died in 1913. I think he
lived the last ten years of his life from around 1914-1925 in Llandudno.
I am trying to establish when Thomas PALING moved to Llandudno. If anyone has access to
Trade Directories from that era I would be interested to hear if Thomas was mentioned.
He ran the hotel with his eldest daughter, Mrs Lizzie FOSTER. After Thomas death in 1925
Mrs FOSTER continued to run an hotel in Llandudno until 1950s. She was assisted in the
business by her unmarried younger sister, Ethel PALING. They also had an african grey
parrot which seemed to figure large in the running of the hotel.
I remember the hotel from the late 1940s when we stayed there with various relatives but
at that time the Hotel was called the "Windsor Hotel". This hotel was on the
promenade but I don't know the address.
Were the Haddon Hotel and the Windsor Hotel one and the same place or had Lizzie FOSTER
moved by the time I stayed there in 1950s?
The sisters eventually retired to Penrhyn Bay.
