Hello again Kathy,
Well, the chapels are still standing, and the graveyards are full of
ancestors. And there is a Rector or vicar in charge. Well, there was a few years
ago anyway when I was there last.
You might be interested to know that a certain Rev. called John Hughes was
the Rector in past times, he baptised, married and buried some of my
ancestors. Now, don't pin me down on exact dates, but I go back to 1716 in Llanbedr
parish, and probably at the same time in Llandanwg. These registers were
sometimes one and the same, probably because one church was the Chapel of ease to
the other. I also have people from Llanfair, during the Napoleonic war era.
A break off branch from my Wynne family, called Evans Wynne. One John
Evans Wynne probably died in this war. I had help with this one years ago.
He has died some years ago, but Dr. Lewis Lloyd lived in Llanfair Parish,
and he was as fascinated with all our local families as we are with our own.
He knew of most of the families around Duffryn. You will find some of his
articles in old journals of the Merioneth Historical Society. Well worth
investigating I should think.
And coming in on what someone else has said, it is possible that your Hughes
used patronomics. I have managed to trace one of my lines in Llanddwywe
Parish using this method back to a marriage in 1712.
I had a Hugh Pritchard, who was buried as Hugh Pugh. His father being Hugh
Pritchard. So we begin with Richard and Hugh. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Maureen, living in the Rhondda.
