Subject: [CLWYD] DNA study in North Wales
I would like to bring a research project to the attention of this
list: The Bronze Age Copper Mines of North Wales: searching for
genetic evidence of the prehistoric settlement of the British Isles
http://www.shef.ac.uk/archaeology/research/copper-mines/index.html
The aim of this project is to investigate the possibility that 4000
years ago, the Bronze Age copper miners at the Great Orme and Parys
Mountain mines, were incomers from as far afield as the Balkans and
Spain. A previous investigation in North Wales reported a much higher
than average presence of a DNA marker that is commonly found in people
from the Balkans and Spain. The aim of this project is to further
investigate this possibility by collecting DNA from cheek swabs
obtained from men who were born in North Wales, and whose paternal
grandfather has family history in the same area.
Individuals who meet these criteria and are interested in
participating in the project should send an email to
northwalesdna(a)sheffield.ac.uk
