Hi Angharad. Thanks so much for the offer of help. Yesterday I received an e-mail from
someone who had access to microfiche and they looked up the info. on my family members. I
now just need to identify the following;
1. Robert Henry Thomas b. 1891 in Bontnewydd d. 1975 in Bontnewydd (wife: Winifred
Allcock)
2. William Thomas b. 1893 in Llanwnda d. 8/7/1983 in Bontnewydd (Veteran/Red Cross
leader)
3. Ifor Thomas b. 1900 in Llanwnda d. 1960 in (?) (wife: Sydney Unknown)
In an earlier posting you stated later burials in the area were at Cefnfaes cemetery,
Rhostryfan, so if anyone has access to info. for that place, I would greatly appreciate a
lookup.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Katie Thomas

Angharad,
Thanks so much for this info. After I wrote the query I received an e-mail
from a relative in England stating his grandparents (Richard & Ann) were
buried at Llanwnda Church about a mile outside of Bontnewydd. I tried to
find this on a map with no success. It helps to have the actual name of the
church (St Gwyndaf's).
As to their descendants, my info. is as follows:
1. Thomas Richard Thomas b. 1889 in Llanbeblig d. 1901 in Llanwnda
2. Robert Henry b. 1891 in Bontnewydd d. 1975 in Bontnewydd (wife: Winifred
Allcock)
3. William b. 1893 in Llanwnda d. 1983 in Bontnewydd
4. Katie Blodwen Thomas b. 1895 in Llanwnda d. 1987 in Colac, Victoria,
Australia
5. Maggie Ann Thomas b. 1898 in Llanwnda d. 1901 in Llanwnda
6. Hywell b. 1899 in Llanwnda d. 1937 in Llanwnda (?)
7. Ifor b. 1900 in Llanwnda d. 1960 in (?) (wife: Sydney Unknown)
8. Gwladus I. Thomas b. 1901 in Llanwnda d. 1901 in Llanwnda
9. Richard Thomas b. 1901 in Llanwnda d. 1901 in Llanwnda
10. Lillian Myfanwy Thomas b. 1905 in Llanwnda d. 1955 in Geelong, Victoria,
Australia (husband: John Llewelyn Evans)
If you have access to a cemetery directory, I'd really appreciate your
looking for these names.
Just as an aside, so many of these kids died in 1901, was there an epidemic
in the area then?
Again, thanks for making the effort to help me out.
Katie

Hi Katie
My intention was to reply before now - I didn't notice that you had recieved
a reply. However I managed today to see a copy of the St Gwyndaf's Church,
Llanwnda 's MI's and found the following for you. It states that it's a
double grave with 2 headstones and as I haven't seen it I'm not sure whether
this refers to the grave that was recorded after this one in the booklet
Er cof serchog am Ann Thomas, annwyl briod Richard Thomas 4 Llifon Terr.
Bontnewydd yr hon a dawel hunodd Mawrth 8 1933 yn 68 ml. oed. "Hyn a allodd
hon, hi a'i gwnaeth." Hefyd eu mab Hywel, bu farw Tachwedd 15, 1937, yn 38
mlwydd oed. "Hwn a ymdrechodd ymdrech deg." Hefyd ei phriod Richard Thomas,
a fu farw Hydref 10, 1954, yn 90 mlwydd oed.
[ in loving memory of A T dear wife of RT ........... who died peacfully
March 8 1933 age 68. what she could she did it. also their son Hywel who
died November 15 1937 age 38. He made a stalwart effort. Also her husband RT
who died October 10, 1954 age 90]
The following inscription is from the adjacent gravestone ( or as I said is
it one of the pair mentioned by the recorder)
In memory of Anne Evans, Glanbeuno Lodge Born June 26, 1933 Died Jan 5, 1934
Safe in the arms of Jesus. also of her beloved mother, Lilian M Evans, died
March 25, 1955, at Geelong Australia
Hope this little helps. You mention their descendants but that would be
impossible without knowing their names ar least and possibly where they
lived or died. Later burials are now at Cefnfaes cemetery, Rhostryfan
Regards
Angharad

Cemeteries in Bontnewydd?
Does anyone have a listing of the cemeteries here? I am looking to identify
the burial location for my relatives Richard and Ann Evans Thomas and their
descendants. Richard (1864-1954) and Ann (1864-1933).
Thanks,
Katie

Anyone out there connected to the DNA in this family?
Thanks.

Hello Listers
I should be very grateful if someone can tell me where in the 1881 census I can find an
entry for Dyffryn Farm, Dyffryn Mymbyr, or who was living there. I presume it was in
Meirionethshire at that time.
Thank you
Gwyneth

Are you confusing this location with Dyffryn Ardudwy in Merionethshire.
Dyffryn Mymbyr is in Caernarfonshire, in Snowdonia. It is a valley on the
Capel Curig to Penygwryd Road. Google it for more information.
