The chart in T Ceiri Griffiths book for Wheldon is chart 166 b
William J Wheldon, probably of Llanberis, married Jane Morris 1809 children William, Joan,
Richard, Hannah, Griffith, John & "3 others". WJW emigrated to Efrog
Newydd, USA. Someone will have to tell me what Efrog means - it's New something.
Probably New York [State].
Hanes Cymry America -
Steuben, New York - p82 - early settlers included W. Wheldin (probably the above).
Bangor, Lacrosse County, Wisconsin - p191/192 - early setlers included John Wheldon Esq
from Steuben NY in 1853. (Possibly related to the above?).
It is certainly worth putting references to Wheldon to one side for later use as you find
out more about these folks - it is my experience for one emigrant family member that a 1st
family were largely left behind with relatives whilst a second family were taken to the
USA. The vagaries of Welsh naming (lots of threads on here) mean that William J Wheldon
and John Wheldon Williams might possibly be related... but it is far too early to say!
You have all the will and tombstone information for the US side already? THere are
sometimes references to family in Wales in both so ensure you have covered all those bases
to avoid "wrong turns".
Yours,
Ian

Thank you, Ian, for the suggestion. I'm new to Welsh genealogy, and
appreciate the tip.
Best regards,
Dawn Williams

Where is Bryngwyneth?
The 1841 census shows that as the birthplace of Lewis Jones (1821), a
sailor. I suspect it might be on Anglesey.
