Rhyd Ddu translates as "Free Black" - what / how would that relate back to a
residential site address?

Subject: [GWYNEDD] David I Hughes, b. 1888 Rhyd Ddu
Born July 16, 1888 in Rhyd Ddu.
I find him (9) in the 1901 Wales Census living there with his grandfather
and, it appears, his sister Mary A (20).
I can't find him in 1891 in Wales. Can anyone spot him?
Diolch.
