Hi Ian,
glad there might be a 'bit of meat to chew on' as it were. Yes I think
that Wergfawr is probably Weeg fawr, so that looks promising.
Thank you for the Lavan Sands memory jog.
There is a William Blayddin at Ty Newydd in 1809 I shall look up his Will
for you to see if it is of any help.
Best wishes, Judith

Hello Judith,
Thank you so much for the material you've sent me. It certainly gives me a
lot more to start working on.
Initially I got the information about the marriage from the Aber PRs at
the
records office in Caernarfon. (I live in Oxfordshire but travel up to N
Wales regularly to visit family). I then confirmed the info by getting
hold
of a copy of the marriage bond from NLW. Following your email I've had
another look at that, and now realise that I'd forgotten that it does
identify a bit more specifically where they came from - William is listed
as
being of Tynewydd in Aber, and Jane of Wergfawr in Aber (probably the same
as the Weegfawr mentioned in one of the wills you found). I'll try to look
up the 1841 census as you suggest to see if it reveals just how many
families were at these locations.
Incidentally the pedestrian route across the Menai Straits is via the
Lavan
sands! I've got a copy of an 18th century road map which shows that the
sands were also used as a major route from Conwy to Beaumaris for
travellers
heading to Holyhead before Telford constructed the Menai bridge.
Best wishes,
Ian
