Hello Ian,
thanks for getting in touch. The only Jones families I have who might
be useful are:
- Richard Jones, yeoman of Henfaes, Will 1797
- Thomas Jones of Tyddyn Uchaf, Bond 1800
- Owen Jones of Weegfawr, Will 1833
- William Jones, Farmer of Glyn, Bond 1833
If your William was born c 1809, then his father was probably born 1780 ish
and his grandfather b c 1750-60. Presuming they too came from Aber, then
Richard or Thomas could be his grandfather and Owen or William be his
father.
Do you know the name of the far/place in Aber whereWilliam was born and have
you looked on the 1841 census for all the Jones families in Aber?
I expect you know that there was quite a bit of movement across from Aber to
Llandegfan because of the ------ Sands (the name escapes me!) I have links
between the 2 places and wondered why, until I found out that people crossed
the sands at low tide.
Did you find the marriage on the NLW marriage bonds site or via the PRs?
Hope this might be of help - I will look at the 4 Jones Wills/ Bonds and get
back to you with more details of who is mentioned in them.
best wishes, Judith

Subject: Re: [GWYNEDD] Aber Wills
Hello Judith,
I read with interest your amusing message about Aber wills. For some years
I've been trying to track down some information about my GG Grandfather,
who
was born in Aber in 1809 or thereabouts. I wonder if you might be able to
help - though I fear it is rather a long shot, since the information I
have
on him his pretty sparse.
Basically the information I have is as follows. His name was William Jones
(not exactly a helpful starter!). He was a stonemason, and married to Jane
(nee Jones) who was baptised in Llandegfan, Anglesey on 28/8/1808. In 1831
they were living in Hirael, Bangor. In the 1841 census they were living in
London. In 1851 they lived at 34 Garden St, Bangor, where William was
recorded as being 42 years old and born in Abergwyngregyn. In the 1861
census William and his wife were simply recorded as being absent from the
family home at 13 Garden St. He seems to have died before the 1871 census.
I've not found any clear or definite evidence of William's birth in the
Aber
parish register. I've found a record of a marriage at Aber between a
William
and Jane Jones (both of the parish) on 20 November 1830, which seems the
right sort of date, but I can't be certain it's them - if it is Jane must
already have moved across the Menai straits to Aber. They had an itinerant
existence as indicated by the birth places of their children - William (b
Bangor July 1831), Owen (b Bangor 1832), Edward (b Bangor 1836), Hugh (b
Manchester 1840), John (b Pimlico, Middlesex 1841), Anne Ellen (b Pimlico
1843), Margaret (b Bangor 1849) and Griffith (b Bangor 1851).
That's all the stuff I've assembled so far. It would be great if I could
confirm William's birth in Aber, and get some information about his
parents
and siblings. As I said earlier, I know it's a really long shot, but if
your
researches in Aber could cast any light on him I'd be most grateful.
Best regards,
Ian Jones
