Subject: [GWYNEDD] St Michaels, Llanrug marriage
I wonder if anyone has access to the St Michaels, Llanrug registers
in
Gwynedd Archive or elsewhere?
After searching for nearly ten years I found this week my Taid's wife's
surname (she is not my Grandmother).
She was from Nottinghamshire (born 1884) and they married there in 1930.
Her maiden name was Alice Marriott EVANS but she was a widow at the
marriage
with the surname SMITH.
My brother thinks she might have been a cook in a big house. We have
found
a Alice M EVANS who was a cook to a parson in Northamptonshire in 1901 -
age
and place of birth match. So she could have worked in a house in North
Wales later if that theory is correct.
Taid was born in Brynrefail and his father moved to be manager of a quarry
at Tal y Sarn. That makes Llanrug the right sort of area.
Someone in the Marriott family has found this marriage for me, Griffith
SMITH seems to have died in 1918 so it is a possible match. I think it is
very unlikely that it is her but I wonder if someone can check it for any
details that match - her second name, age, place of birth etc.
