I think the best place to enquire about the content of the Bodorgan MSS would be Bangor
Archives (University College of Wales, Bangor) but I feel that it would be largely
administrative - land rental and the like. There might be correspondence of interest but
I doubt if there exists much/any from the 17th century? Maybe ask.

Getting these publications is the problem. I had thought the LDS library had a lot on
Wales but am not so sure now and since they have redone their site, I can't even get
to the IGI. I downloaded Dwnn and have found some on the family but not nearly enough. I
did look for Wills at National Library and there isn't much there as far as I could
see
Can you tell me anything about Bodorgan Manuscripts Records of the Meyrick family of
Bodorgan, Anglesey, 15th-20th century ? It sounds so promising :)
thanks

Meurig (the name that gives rise to Meyrick / Merrick) was not all that uncommon a name in
Wales. The most famous family are probably the Meyricks of Bodorgan but there must be
other unconnected families.
Lewis Dwnn in his "Visitations" records the family down to the end of the 16th
century ie about 1600 but I don't know if that date would be late enough for you
without referring to the book.
JE Griffiths in his "Pedigrees of Caernarvonshire families..." in about 1911
also records them but I don't know if there is a William with the right date.
There are a number of manuscript pedigree books in the British Library eg by Randall
Holmes of Chester, written in more like 1630, which are the best bet for the date you are
interested in. I don't know if the Meyricks are specifically mentioned.
You could also look at the National Library of Wales website for all Meurig / Meyrick
wills (in all dioceses) in case one might mention a William.
It would be difficult, but not impossible, to get the information you want from the USA.
You might be disappointed, however, after a long, drawn out search.
The IGI has 5 or so christenings 1598-1602 - these are all over the place. I would ignore
the "births" as births weren't generally recorded in that time.

Ian

OK
I have committed the ultimate genealogy sin in trusting someone else's
information. I recently realized I had an error that has been
floating around for at least 100 years so . . .
I have a William Meyrick who was in New England by 1636 (not found on
passenger lists but he is included in the Great Migration) He has
been connected to John and Dorothy Meyrick of Pembrokeshire but
according to Dwnn, John and Dorothy did not have a child named
William. According to his Will, William was born abt 1602/3 . I have
a copy of a newspaper article which says William Meyrick was from
Pembrokeshire. So I am stretching here in that I need to find
Meyricks who had a son named William who was born 1602/3 which is
about 70 years after the surnames began in Wales and from my prowling
the internet, I know that a lot has been written about this family.
According to tidbits I have picked up in New England information, it
has been stated that William descended from Meurig ap Llwewlyn of
Bodorgan. When I saw Bodorgan Manuscripts Records of the Meyrick
family of Bodorgan, Anglesey, 15th-20th century, it looked like a good
resource. I floundering here. The local library has no genealogy
resources and the local geni library is too tiny to include anything
from Wales. I'm open for any guidance
Thanks
Kay
